Ford City Municipal Water Works is required to provide an annual report showing the results of drinking water testing. This report covers water quality testing from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025.
Ford City’s drinking water comes from groundwater wells located within the Borough. The water system routinely tests for regulated substances as required by state and federal law. In 2025, the detected substances were all within allowable limits, and the report shows no water quality violations that created a public health risk.
Testing included chlorine, nitrate, lead, copper, certain disinfection byproducts, and PFAS compounds; the reported levels were below the applicable regulatory limits or action levels. For lead and copper testing, 0 out of 10 tested sites exceeded the action level.
The report also notes four reporting or monitoring-related violations in 2025. These involved late reporting or sampling/reporting timing issues. The required notices or reports were completed, compliance was achieved, and the report states that there was no point at which public safety was at risk.
The year 2025 also included a major improvement to Ford City’s water system. The Borough completed water main replacement work throughout most of town, replacing older water lines with modern infrastructure. As part of that work, any lead service lines encountered during construction were replaced. These improvements are an important long-term investment in water quality, system reliability, and public health.
The Borough views this report as part of its ongoing commitment to transparency and responsible utility management. In addition to completing required water testing, Ford City has continued to reinvest in the system by replacing aging infrastructure, improving reliability, and removing lead service lines when found during construction. These improvements help reduce the risk of future breaks, improve water delivery, and support long-term public health.
Ford City’s water system, like many older community water systems, requires continued maintenance, planning, and investment. The Borough has taken an active approach by pursuing infrastructure improvements, addressing aging lines, maintaining regulatory compliance, and keeping residents informed. While no water system is without challenges, Ford City Borough is working to address those challenges in a responsible and forward-looking way.
Residents should remember that all drinking water, including bottled water, may contain small amounts of naturally occurring or regulated substances. The presence of a substance does not automatically mean the water is unsafe.
Ford City Borough remains committed to providing safe, reliable drinking water while continuing to modernize an aging system for the benefit of current residents, businesses, and future generations. Residents with questions, concerns, or interest in the Borough’s service line inventory may contact the Ford City Borough Office at 724-763-3081.
