Street Sweeping

The fine for a street sweeping ticket has increased to $20.00

Ford City Borough conducts street sweeping twice a year, for six weeks in the spring and four weeks in the fall. This service is essential for keeping our streets clean, improving public health, protecting stormwater systems, and preserving road infrastructure.

Why Street Sweeping is Necessary:

Improves Community Cleanliness
Street sweeping removes dirt, leaves, and litter from roadways, keeping Ford City’s neighborhoods and business districts looking well-maintained and welcoming.

Protects Public Health
Dust, pollen, and other fine particles on the streets can contribute to air pollution and respiratory issues. Regular sweeping helps reduce these contaminants, creating a cleaner environment for everyone.

Prevents Storm Drain Clogs and Water Pollution
Debris left on the streets can wash into storm drains, leading to blockages and potential flooding. Additionally, pollutants from roadways can enter the Allegheny River. Street sweeping helps prevent these issues and supports responsible stormwater management.

Extends the Life of Roads and Infrastructure
Dirt and debris contribute to the wear and tear of road surfaces, leading to cracks, potholes, and costly repairs. Routine sweeping helps preserve the Borough’s streets and reduces long-term maintenance expenses.

Enhances Safety
Loose gravel, leaves, and debris can create hazardous conditions for both drivers and pedestrians. Keeping the streets clear improves safety, particularly during wet weather.

Street Sweeping Enforcement

Residents are required to move their vehicles from designated areas on scheduled street sweeping days. Failure to do so will result in a $10 fine per occurrence. The Borough provides advance notice to ensure compliance and allow for effective cleaning.

Street sweeping is a vital part of Ford City’s commitment to a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible community. Your cooperation helps keep our streets well-maintained and enjoyable for everyone.
