Ford City and Manorville boroughs are asking residents, property owners and business owners to help shape the future of both communities by completing a community survey.
The survey is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community Planning Technical Assistance Program. Through this program, the boroughs are completing the preliminary work necessary to prepare for a potential joint comprehensive plan and joint zoning ordinance.
A comprehensive plan is a long-range roadmap that helps guide decisions involving housing, economic development, infrastructure, transportation, recreation, public safety, community character and land use. Before any goals or recommendations are developed, officials want to understand what the people who live, work, own property and operate businesses in our communities believe should be prioritized.
“This is an opportunity for both communities to take an honest look at where we are today and where we want to be in the future,” Ford City Borough Manager Charles Stull said. “The decisions we make should be guided by the needs and priorities of the entire community, and this survey gives everyone an opportunity to be part of that process.”
The survey asks participants to identify the most important issues facing their community, rank priorities and share how they would like their neighborhoods to look in the future. Topics include infrastructure, economic development, fiscal responsibility, public safety, housing, parks and recreation, government transparency and community character.
“Ford City and Manorville share many of the same challenges, opportunities and community connections,” Manorville Borough Council President Chris Yanoff said. “Working together allows us to look beyond municipal boundaries and consider how thoughtful planning can benefit both boroughs. I strongly encourage Manorville residents to complete the survey and tell us what matters most to them.”
No zoning decisions have been made, and the survey does not propose a specific ordinance, development project or change to anyone’s property. Its purpose is to gather broad community input before recommendations are prepared.
Responses will be kept confidential and combined into a community-wide summary. Individual responses, statements and identifying information will not be publicly released.
