Ford City Borough Launches Façade Improvement Grant Program

Ford City Borough is excited to announce the launch of the Ford City Borough Façade Improvement Grant Program, a new opportunity for eligible property owners and business owners to improve the exterior appearance of buildings within the Borough’s designated program area.

The program is funded through Governor Josh Shapiro’s Main Street Matters Program, administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and was developed in conjunction with the Ford City Area Business and Professional Association.

The goal of the program is to encourage private investment, support local businesses, preserve the historic character of Ford City, and continue the ongoing revitalization of the Borough’s downtown.

The Ford City Façade Program provides funding to property owners, or business owners with building-owner approval, to encourage exterior restoration projects that contribute to a welcoming downtown aesthetic. Approved applicants may receive a 50% matching grant on a reimbursable basis, with a maximum grant award of $5,000 for a project costing $10,000.

Eligible improvements may include signage, awnings, exterior restoration and painting, storefront façade improvements, architectural elements and additions, doors and entrances, windows, exterior lighting, lighting signage, and other approved exterior enhancements.

“This program is about helping our property owners and business owners take pride in their buildings while also making improvements that benefit the entire Borough,” said Council President Vicki Schaub. “When one storefront improves, it adds momentum for the whole downtown.”

“This is not just about paint and signs,” said Borough Manager Charles Stull. “It is about preserving the character of Ford City, encouraging private investment, and helping our downtown look more welcoming to residents, visitors, and future businesses. The Borough is trying to be proactive and provide a tool that helps property owners move projects forward.”

The program was created with support from the Ford City Area Business and Professional Association, whose members continue to advocate for downtown investment and local business growth.

“This is exactly the type of program that can make a visible and lasting difference in Ford City,” said Richard Wakefield, President of the Ford City Area Business and Professional Association. “Our business district has tremendous potential, and this grant gives property owners and business owners another reason to invest in their buildings, their businesses, and their community.”

Applicants should note that this is a reimbursement program. No work may begin until the project has received written approval. Beginning work before approval may make the project ineligible for reimbursement. The program also requires a complete application packet, a $25 nonrefundable application fee, three cost estimates or proof of efforts to obtain three estimates, proof of financial responsibility, proof of tax payment, and good-standing verification from the Borough of Ford City.

Application packages may be picked up at the Ford City Borough Office, 1000 4th Avenue, Ford City, PA 16226.

Property owners and business owners interested in applying are encouraged to contact Borough staff before submitting an application to discuss the proposed project, program requirements, and required supporting documents.
